It is widely known that public schools are under funded.  The non-profit organization DonorsChoose has set up a web site to make it easy for anyone who wishes to help.  

Teachers post requests for projects or supplies.  Benefactors donate tax-deductible contributions by check or credit card.  Currently Yahoo is matching all donations.
